The Litany of Victory – Hizb al-Nasr, also known as the Litany of Subdual – Hizb al-Qahr, by Imam Abul Hasan al-Shadhili (or, according to some manuscripts, by Imam Abul Mawahib al-Shadhili), is a supplication centred on the verse in the Qur’an known as ‘the sword of the believers’:
(Al `Imran 3:173)
Some of those who know the truth have said: “I know of nothing that more effectively destroys the enemy than this invocation, nor any prayer more likely to be answered by Allah.”
It has been referred to as the “sword of Shādhilī,” due to its potency and his use of this prayer when he and his students fought the crusaders in 647(1250) (in the seventh crusade which was took place in Egypt).
The invocation is performed by first offering the `Isha prayer. Once people have gone to bed, one renews one’s wudu’ and prays two rak`at. One sits in the position adopted during the tashahhud and recites the verse 450 times with full concentration, whilst visualising what one is asking for. Upon completing this, one repeats the recitation of the verse the same number of times, and then recites the supplication (Hizb al-Nasr) seven times, or as many times as one can. This is repeated for several consecutive nights, until what one is asking for comes to pass, which does not take long, for this supplication is answered swiftly.
